This picture looks like it could possibly get bad very quickly. The dog's personality does not matter. It is an animal. It acts on instincts and sometimes obeys its master and sometimes doesn't. Some of the dominating body language directed towards the baby is a little scary. I agree with Rick. Rick also wrote that he himself owns a dog, but he keeps a very close eye on the two of them. The person standing back and taking this picture would not be able to reach the child in time if anything happened. Man's best friend...yes. But, to trust a dog's intelligence so much that the parent is willing to chance the 1% that this will end in catastrophe is not a good idea.
It is a fact that a dog has approximately the intelligence of a 2 year old child. Has your child ever gotten mad at someone at the playground and tried to hurt another child? Has your child ever gotten mad at you and tried to hurt you? I'm sure you actively teach your child not to hit, but I'm sure he/she does it sometimes despite what you've taught them. Also, I'm sure no one was hurt because your child does not have the strength or power to hurt you. However, give your child sharp teeth and the strength of one of these dogs, and I'm sure you would change your opinion.
I'm pretty astounded at how easily one picture can have complete strangers typing in all caps, cussing, and calling each other names. I disagree with the negative opinions of this photo but I'm not about to call them idiots, assholes, morons or whatever other names have been thrown out there at this point. It's all pretty childish if you ask me. The photographer took what she thought was an adorable set of photos and decided to share them on this wonderful, anonymous thing we call the internet, hoping to provoke the same "awwwwww" feeling she had when she captured them. Instead she created a cyber-brawl complete with hair pulling and sucker punches. It's really ridiculous. When our parents taught us not to bully, not to fight, and to instead share our feelings and use our words...I'm pretty sure this isn't what they had in mind.
Just a word of advice...I'd stay away from youtube if I were you. There's a TON of "cute" videos of babies and dogs playing together and cuddling. It's really awful stuff, let me tell you.
Wow. Judge much?
This is cute.
Cute photo's. No one can tell you if you are being irresponsible or not because it's your dog and you know that animal. You obviously didn't just leave the baby alone with the dog (hence the pictures) and you got some beautiful shots.
My first dog, who was a pitbull I would be completely comfortable letting a child cuddle and play with. My dog now, who is an aussie shepphard... no way in hell. She has never bit anyone and I don't think she ever will but you can tell by her body lanquage that she is not 100% comfortable with children.
Know your dog, know your kid and never leave them alone together. Thats all.
You know, I'm sick of people judging a parent's decision (aside from the obvious one's like letting a rapist be apart of your carpool, or sticking your kid in a hot car for an hour). We don't know the situation, and we don't know the dog! When I was younger my mom and I had a roommate who had a dog who was part German Shepard, part Great Dane. When my mom and I were walking this dog, someone came up to her and yelled at her for having such a big dog around me. What this person didn't know, is that this dog was not only the biggest baby you would ever meet, but he had protected me countless times from other, very violent dogs. Yet, this person just assumed that he was ferocious.
Now, I was never put into that position with that dog, at so young of an age. But I can't judge the situation here. I've known pits who were sweeter than most labs. And this dog is no pit. This baby clearly isn't upset, and is clearly very loved by his parents. We need to stop assuming things. Now it is possible that after the picture was taken the dog ripped the baby's face off. But do we know this? No. Is it likely that the picture wouldn't have been posted if it had? Yep.
Parent your kids however you want (within reason), and don't feel like every single time you want to share a cute moment someone is going to come and judge it. Now I also can't judge someone being cautious. Whatever floats your boat, but honestly. Give it a rest. Chill for a moment, and think about it logically without jumping to conclusions. Now if the logical conclusion that you come to after thinking it through is that it's too dangerous, then don't raise your kids that way.
They both look so adorable!
This is obviously a family pet.The parents could have other children the dog is used to.I have never had a dog, and I've had about 6, who have ever bitten a child or any person for that matter.Household pets don't attack unless they're somehow provoked. Since this is clearly a PET and not a stray, it would have all it's shots, i.e rabies. The kid's in no danger.

All haters, suck my dick! go play with your retarded cats, PUSSIES! These photos are beautiful!
Look, I understand that dogs can do some pretty screwed up things. But just because that one dog bit that baby, doesn't mean that every dog of that kind is going to hurt a baby and if you think that then you're stupid! That's like thinking because a child smacked its mother, that every child is going to smack its mother!! STUPID!
All of these stupid ass people hahahaha.I can't imagine EVERY SINGLE ONE of these dumbasses that are soooo upset about this picture are the "perfect parent"....yeah dogs can be dangerous & COULD bite the munchkin I GUESS. Dog bites kill less people in a year then hippos and fucking jelly fish (we're talking statistics here) want to know what else falls above dog bites? HOT DOGS. LOL. Some of you are probably smokers, drinkers, pill heads, who the fuck knows, but my point is, this person allowing their dog near their OWN child is just as bad, if not better, then some of the choices you probably make. So unless you have your kid wrapped in bubble wrap and in an oxygen bubble, id just shut the fuck up and think about the choices you make around your child... maybe they arent so obvious but your not the perfect fucking parent either. If i had kids, your damn right my dogs would be near the child licking it from head to toe cuz I know my dogs well enough to allow that. These people probably felt comfortable too.
Read some dog bite statistics sometime, do some research. oh and shut the fuck up.
Cute ass pic btw.
I came across this pic and i had to comment. I have owned dogs all my life and unfortunately, I have seen my completely loving, gentle, and submissive furry baby that was raised with my children from a puppy bite my own child in the face. There was no warning. His knee dislocated as he was playing with my daughter and he snapped in response to the pain. Incidentally my child did nothing to the dog. He had dysphasia of the knee and at times his knee cap would slip out of place. She unfortunately was by his face and took a bite that has scarred her for life. I knew my dog well. There was no reason I ever would have doubted my children's safety. But I didn't plan on that circumstance. My point is there is no 100% garuntee with animals. So please learn a lesson from our misfortune. If any dog is hurt, scared, or angry they will bite. We were right beside them and there was nothing I could do to stop what unfolded right before my eyes. My daughter was 5 if that scenario happened with an infant they could easily die. The other problem I have is the position of dominance the animal is showing over the baby. That is a major no no. All our children were laid over our dogs while we held them on their sides to establish the babies dominance over them. We also took the baby's saliva and put it on the chew bones, again establishing the children as above them in the pack. There are certain things that should never be allowed to occur, and the dog laying over the child like that is one of them. I'm sure it appears cute to many. But it makes me cringe. I just know how quick something can go wrong. I have lived it.
I feel so bad for the children of the people who are hating on these pictures. I'm imagining them growing up to be socially awkward, fun deprived little weirdos who's parents would never let them go because something could happen. Loosen your grip, you don't want to smother them to death.
These pictures made me smile. Animals and babies, my two favorite things :)
But what if the dog has no teeth?
Guys, dogs do have to be trained to not view small children/infants as prey, so you're right, it's not always safe to let a dog hang around small children, no matter how sweet that dog is to humans. BUT once a dog IS trained to view children as humans and not prey, as long as you know your dog, it is safe. I recommend reading Animals in Translation by Temple Grandin for more on the subject, like most things it's not black or white, so you have to evaluate your own situation/dog yourself, but don't just assume that the person taking the picture is being irresponsible ok? And if someone is stupid enough to look at it and go "gee I'm going to replicate this with my dog and my baby even though I have not trained my dog to understand the proper hierarchy in this 'pack' but I'm sure it will be fine" well, then that person is stupid and would have endangered their child some other way anyhow and it's their own fault, not that of the person who took this photo. Uh duh.
everyone who doesn't think this is cute is a fucking retard.
Aww this baby is really cute and love her pet :P

posts are hilarious. "dogs are not humans, dogs are not people" well, theres no flies on you people, for spotting the obvious... the dog is sitting beside the child, quite obviously the parent is taking the photo.. ha i mean theres teachers, nursey school helpers, plently of people including PARENTS whom harm kids. unless provoked a balanced dog wont do so... so maybe think a little harder about what people you leave ur kids with, rather than what dogs u do... might diminish the stats of child abuse which is considerablly lower than dogs harming babies...
you know, my friend had a grandma 86 years old who was watching over her 1 y old grandson and Mastiff. when she went to the house to get milk for the baby, the mastiff jumped onto the baby cart, killed it and ripped it apart, his baby hand went flying onto the house porch just near by where the grandma entered the house. when the grandma returned and saw what happened, she hang herself in the attic. parents came home few hours later. just sayin. you know. gotta love dogs with babies. keep them cute and adorable pictures coming!
its never the dogs fault. nor the babies. its them stupid parents :) and yes, these pictures show sign of dogs dominance over child, not a cute hug, if you know anything about dogs.
