Oh thats just gorgeous!!! I have to say I have always been in love with Neopolitan Mastiffs, and this has just made my insdies all fuzzy :) I want one so badly!!!!!
This is cute and everything, but that article yesterday about the baby's face being eaten at it's 1 y/o birthday party by the bull mastiff is enough for me to never put a baby near a dog that big. They said the dog has never hurt anyone, and that it was the sweetest dog you'd ever meet. And then it killed their kid. I never comment on things, but HUGE DOGS AND BABIES DO NOT MIX, NO MATTER HOW NICE THE DOG!!!
that baby will allways be safe
By that logic, you should never place your baby near a human, either. Humans kill more babies than dogs.
That's actually a sign of dominance, not the cute hug that it appears to be.
It depends on the dog and how well it fits into the family. Many bitches have very strong paternal instincts, and would never dream of hurting "their" baby. Just the opposite. It's necessary to know the dog. Unfortunately, sometimes people are woefully ignorant about how their animals will react.
Even dogs who would never purposefully hurt a baby or child must be closely supervised to make sure they don't accidentally do so.
I trained my pitbull to eat babies. Population control.
That is absolutely adorable! :D
this is frightening
one small meaningless nip from this dog and that kid is at the very least, disfigured FOR LIFE. OR BLIND.OR DEAD. all because someone thinks it will make a cute picture.if that dog nipped that child, it would happen so fast you might not even know it happened until you saw the blood.
this picture depresses me in that someone may see it and decide to replicate it with their child, with their dog. somewhere, sometime, some child is going to get really, really hurt. and it's because of this picture.
THIS PICTURE SUCKS AND WHOEVER TOOK IT, LIKES IT, COMMENTS APPROVINGLY FOR IT OR HAS ANYTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH IT'S PROMOTION IS A MORON AND KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT DOGS. NOTHING!
as long as there is even a 5%, 2%, even a .5% chance that the unthinkabloe could occur, that dog should be kept at a distance from that child. ANY CHILD.
it is NOT adorable, it is the epitomy of irresponsiblity. you endanger the child AS WELL AS the dog.
Kaiti, you have to be the dumbest person i've ever seen in my entire life anywhere...
Chill the hell out, that is freaking adorable! They're keeping an eye on boh of them anyway
@wow: i'm sorry, but you are WRONG. it is not adorable. it is irresponsible behavior, not only as a parent, but as a dog owner.
you simply cannot be 100% certain that a dog will behave exactly as you think it will, you can only assume.dogs are not people, they DO NOT think like people. a dog has no morality.a dog does not know 'right' from 'wrong'. they only know what it's owner approves of, or disapproves. that's it.
and if the owner of that dog is 99% sure that nothing will happen, as a parent, AND a bullmastiff owner, that 1% is simply too much of a chance for me to take.
that kid looks about 7-9 months old, so the this dog has been given realistically 3-4 months to acclimate to this child.
and 'keeping an eye on them', from what looks like a good 6-8 feet away, and through a camera lens, is not going to mean anything, were an incident to occur. keeping an eye on something is meaningless in this situation.
stfu rick you troll. WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK.
That baby could have bitten that dog's EAR off!! What were that dog's owners thinking of??????? End baby on dog violence now!
Its so important that dogs and children living together are exposed to each other. If they are not exposed to each other the baby and the dog both become something to be feared or not trusted by the other. While yes there is always a chance the dog will bite, there's also always a chance the dog will bite an adult as well. Saying that the baby and the dog should be kept as far away from each other as possible is just plain ignorant. Obviously there was an adult two feet away taking the pictures. While bites happen fast there are always warning signs. A dog that "would never bite anyone" and bites out of the blue has a reason and gives warning. Its ignorant people not being able to read body language and vocal cues from the animal. This picture is adorable.
LJ, clearly you are an academic. exposure and acclimation between pets and children is a given, we can all agree on this. what we apparently do not agree upon is the method and proximity of the parent to this child while it is so close to this dog. a child, an infant can be introduced to a family pet while safely in the parents LAP, where the parent, owner of the dog, is in TOTAL control of the situation, which he or she WAS NOT.
and there was an adult (we assume) two (or 3, or 5 or 6) feet away. and blissfully preoccupied with the taking a cute little picture.i am sorry, but the dog that bites 'out of the blue' does not give any warning, it does indeed, bite out of the blue.i partially agree with one thing; when a dog bites, it will display signs. except when it doesn't. let's say that 99 times out of 100, a dog displays these 'signs' you speak of. that's enough for me.as you say, there is always a chance a dog will bite, and if that's a small enough margin for you then good for you.
your statement that a dog will not bite without reason is true. but it is equally as true that you will not always know the reason. you will not always see the signs. you will not always be able to identify the 'body language'.
this dog, however cute and adorable, has been used to kill bears, to hunt escaped prisoners, to attack poachers. these dogs are bred to fear nothing. i know there are plenty of people that will disagree with me, but i am the owner of a similar dog and i find it the height of irresponsibility to allow this picture to remain without criticism. a mastiff is NOT a lab.
you can criticize all you want, but when you said...
you're being rash and fucked up. WTF DOES COMMENTING AND LIKING THE PICTURE HAVE TO DO ANYTHING WITH KNOWING THINGS ABOUT DOGS. Your argument contains fallacies of relevance all over and your argument falls from that.
Quit yapping about the dog biting. We KNOW that it CAN bite unexpectedly!
"@wow: i'm sorry, but you are WRONG. it is not adorable," saying that it's adorable is a fucking opinion. YOU CANT FUCKING SAY THAT'S WRONG.
